The Student Persepective

Meet our new Special Events Coordinator

The Kaplan Center is a multi-faceted facility that, in addition to our weekly programming, can support special events for the UNCG Community. Coordinating all of these moving pieces is now the responsibility of our new Special Events Coordinator, Hannah Lanzillotta.

Meet our new Membership Coordinator

Catie Payne is a familiar face around Recreation & Wellness. Members have interacted with her in a variety of rolls including Patron Service Assistant, Facility Supervisor, and Intern. Traditionally we have to say farewell to our student staff once they graduate, but Catie was not your average student. We are happy to announce that Catie has joined the RecWell professional staff as our Membership Coordinator.

The start of a new adventure

The Department of Recreation & Wellness is happy to welcome Davis Preston, our new Outdoor Adventures Graduate Assistant. Davis joins us after completing his undergraduate degree at Eastern Kentucky University and is pursuing a Masters Degree in Community and Therapeutic Recreation. I had a chance to chat with Davis this morning and got to know him a bit better.

Native American Student Association Pow Wow

“It’s the first pow-wow held on the UNCG campus in 15 or 20 years,” said Raven Dial-Stanley, president of UNCG’s Native American Student Association, who organized the event. “It’s a traditional we’re hoping to revitalize.”

Intramural Indoor Soccer

Every college student knows that school can be stressful, with midterms, finals, working an outside job etc. A lot of students are able to release some tension, however, through the Recreation & Wellness Department’s intramural sports program, which lets students compete in a friendly and fun environment.

5-on-5 Basketball Championship Night

A season of hard work pays off for 2 deserving teams. Intramural Sports crowned the 5-on-5 Basketball champions on Thursday, March 9th.

A.L.O.H.A.

Spring Break is upon us! In an effort to promote a safe and healthy Spring Break, the Department of Recreation and Wellness set out to offer the UNCG community A Lively Opportunity to Happily Abstain.
