The number of visitors to the Kaplan Center during our first year of operation easily surpassed the busiest year ever experienced when the Student Recreation Center was still open. Managing the programs and staff that make this place so great takes a dedicated team. Corrine Pruett is our newest addition to that team.

Joining RecWell this fall, Corrine serves as the Graduate Assistant for Facilities and Special Events. A Seattle native, she brings her experiences working with the Recreation Department at Central Washington University to UNCG. At CWU, Corrine began her time in recreation working in the Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals program as a trip leader. When speaking with her, it is easy to see her passion for everything outdoors. “One of my huge goals that I’ve wanted to do for a long time is thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail the summer after grad school.”

Making the transition from Outdoor Pursuits to Facilities is not a path commonly taken by staff, but it is working out well for Corrine. “I chose to do my internship with various departments at CWU Recreation in an effort to diversify my experiences and gain a better understanding of the university recreation industry as a whole. I enjoyed facilities and special events and felt that it provided me the most room to grow as a professional in the field.” The experiences gained during this time, cemented the desire to pursue a career in collegiate recreation.

As previously mentioned, Corrine has a strong desire to explore the outdoors. In 2014, she spent time in Africa where she summited Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft). “The experiences I had during my time in Africa provided me amazing perspective and has help shaped my life.” Additionally, she has spent time in Nicaragua working with the GIVE organziation.

In her role as the GA for Facilities and Special Events, Corrine will directly supervise the facility staff placing an emphasis on customer service and membership management. “I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the student staff and can’t wait to see how we grow and develop over the next two years.” Her ability to connect with the students will aid her as she works to enhance the sense of community and comradery here in the Kaplan Center.

We are excited to have Corrine as a part of our staff and cannot wait to see all that she accomplishes during her time at UNCG!
